Good Morning everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far! I know I am because it's finally cold in Florida! At least cold for Florida that is. It's been in the 30-40's at night and in the 60's during the day for the past, oh, 3-4 days.
Here's a funny joke my dad sent me this week (I can totally see this happening in the future):
Life just gets better as you get older doesn't it.
I was in a Starbucks Coffee recently when my stomach started rumbling and I realized that I desperately needed to fart. The place was packed but the music was really loud so to get relief and reduce embarrassment I timed my farts to the beat of the music. After a couple of songs I started to feel much better. I finished my coffee and noticed that everyone was staring at me. I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my Ipod .
This is what happens when old people start using new technology.
I keep telling myself that I'm going to stop making toys for the shelter because truthfully, I actually hate braiding them. My back always aches when I'm done. Well lets just say I finished doing 9 yards of material and I have 27 yards left. I bought this material on really good sales, as low as $3 a yard. Usually the best sale is $5 and I just couldn't help myself over the holidays. I finished these Thursday and dropped them off at the shelter as our County fair started Friday and I thought they might want some to bring since Valentine's Day is coming soon.
My sister called me yesterday and told me she had to put her little pug Dutch to sleep. About a month or so ago all the sudden he woke up blind in his one eye (he only has one eye). The next day he had his vision back. She had a specialist look at him to try to determine if he had a stroke or if it was maybe a detached retina but they couldn't find anything. Then about 2 weeks ago he went blind again, but this time he didn't want much anything to eat since it happened. They found out yesterday that he cancer throughout his little body, even in his brain. He was a tough little guy and showed no pain until he couldn't fight anymore in the end. She has another little pug named Rosie. Since Dutch wouldn't eat, she wouldn't eat. She was very attached to him. So yesterday my sister brought home another little pug from the rescue for the weekend to see how it works out. I hope it works out with the little guy and Rosie starts feeling attached to another little guy. She's so cute. I can't seem to post pictures today for some reason, so I'll post a picture of little Dutch when it lets me.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Holidays Come and Gone
Boy as fast as they come, you don't seem to have enough time for them. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and safe New Year! We had our family up for Christmas Eve and then for Christmas day. It was a quiet one this year. My brother-in-law didn't have his kids this year and they are the only young ones at the holiday. All our other nephews and niece are 17 and older. My sister and niece also didn't come this year. We had a nice time with everyone though. Here's my kids pictures with Santa this year. They've never had one done with Santa before.
New Years Eve...well, I made it until about 10:30 then woke up about 12:30. Lucas stayed in the closet all night but he seemed to do well in there. Poor old guy.

Here's Holly with a tiger toy that Grandpa brought up for her. She loves her little toys and actually saves them longer than usual.
I still can't believe we're in the new year already! Work is making me pull my hair out. Last week I had a problem downloading the new taxes from the program site. That really stressed me out because I had to do that before I did my payroll. Thankfully it was fixed late Monday afternoon and I finally got all the payroll done. Now my mind keeps going in circles just thinking of all the stuff I have to do for the month, quarter, and year end stuff. I really hope this is my last year doing this.
Soon I am going to somehow help start raising funds for Lucas' and Holly's rescue so he can purchase a new van. He's had 2 vehicles that he has used and one finally took its last leg last year, and the one he is using now is barely making it without breaking down. It's kind of hard as he is the only person for his rescue. He usually has anywhere from 12-20 fosters. He does a lot of transporting and that's why it's necessary for him to have a reliable vehicle. He goes from Orlando to Miami picking up Dobermans not only for his own rescue but for other rescues too. He sent me a picture that one of his previous adopters' 13 year old daughter drew so he could auction it off for funds. I bought a frame yesterday for it. Here's a picture of it. (the white is the Styrofoam around the edges of the frame as I haven't opened it yet) This little girl has such talent and I'm hoping someone will cherish it, as I know I would.

(I tried like 5 times to flip this picture and I can't get it to turn right. I'm stopping trying before I hit my computer, lol.)
I also bought a few things on eBay, a magnetic writing board for the fridge, a pen, and sticky notes...all with a Doberman on them. I was going to save this as maybe a little prize for a photo contest or something. I still haven't thought it all out. I was trying to enlist the help of another adopter so hopefully she can help come up with some ideas.
Well back to full weeks of work starting tomorrow, and I think school starts again. It was nice with the lighter traffic without school. All good things must come to an end. Hope everyone has a great week!!

Christmas Preparations
Hope everyone had a great week last week!
Well Christmas is almost here and it will be gone before you know it, that's the sad part. I always try to give donations at least every month, but I'd like to be more creative in the upcoming year. I will still give every month but I'd like to do something different once in awhile this time. What, I have no idea, so don't ask. :) I think I might actually make a "to do" list for next year, and make sure it's done by years end.
My fur-kids had Santa visit them last week with his elves. I can't post the pictures yet as I sent out my cards late and some haven't received it yet so I don't want to give it away. Santa brought them some festive collars and some nice jackets for when it gets cool and rainy...and we've been waiting and waiting and waiting for that cool.
Miss Holly had an ear malfunction in her picture.
Here's a sneak peak of our Christmas tree with Lucas and Holly both dreaming of treats and squirrels to chase for Christmas.

Both of them had baths today so they don't stink like dog when we have house guests. Holly had her nails painted red sparkly. I already have some on my couch.
Well that's about it for right now. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and be safe out there if you're traveling!! Love from me, Lucas, Holly, Patches, and Lily

Time is Flying
Hope everyone has been well! Time has just been flying by!
Lily has been doing well. I've been getting her fluids every week. Next week I'm going in to the vet and I'm determined to have them show me how to do give her the fluids without being nervous that I hurt her, at least sticking the needle into her. I can handle an insulin sized needle, but this needle is much larger. I know it will be easier for her, and me, to do it at home. She seems to be doing about the same, no worse, and if anything slightly better. I know the fluids have helped her. Maybe the medicine is helping too, I don't know. I know the medicine won't reverse it though. I'm thankful for every day I have with her.
Since it's getting closer to the year end, I've been packing up paperwork at the office for a years worth of bookkeeping. I loathe this time of the year and wonder why I'm still there after doing this job for 7 years now. I've been there for 18 years but have been doing the bookkeeping for 7. I sort of 'inherited' the job after the last person retired. Not something I wanted to do but figured I'd try it especially since it pays much better. Let's just say I'd rather do what I was doing. I really need to kick my husbands gear into saving some more money so I can find something else. My dream would be to have my own business but I have no idea what type of business. I've basically been running their business for 7 years on my own as neither boss is capable of actually doing anything. I'm tired of running someone else's when I could run my own. I need to put a thinking cap on for ideas. Here's some of my packing at work.
Holly is the only dog I know that doesn't like french fries. She only likes nasty stuff to eat.
One day on the way home from work this week. Thought the clouds looked neat.

Here's Lily, Holly, and Lucas all watching dad one morning this week before work. Funny picture.
Lucas riding in the back of dads truck. We had to drop him off yesterday for a cardio work up because he has a heart murmur. Hoping for no bad results next week.

The shelter didn't have their Christmas photos this year so needless to say I didn't have any done this year which basically lead to no cards. I know, I'm terrible. I was waiting for the shelter to do them and they always do them at the beginning of December. Well they didn't and know I don't feel like rushing to get any done anywhere else. The rescue guy where we adopted Lucas and Holly from might be stopping by today, and if he does he will be bringing his Santa suit to dress up in so we can take pictures then. Of course they won't be professional pictures, but I'll take anything.
Well I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Lily's Vet Visit
I brought Lily to the vet last weekend as she hasn't been eating much lately. She's getting older and I probably should have brought her in for a check up awhile ago. I had some blood work done on her, got her groomed as she hasn't been able to do it for quite some time and no matter how much I brush her I can't get the thickness out, and they gave her some fluids. Her blood work came back and she has Chronic Kidney Failure. According to her creatinine number (5.9), she is in severe failure. I didn't ask the doctor what this meant in terms of extent of her life because I believe I know that answer. I bought the kidney diet food for her which she seemed to love right away. I haven't seen her eat too much lately again. I might have to switch to a different brand. I also started her on the medicine Azodyl. I had a previous cat that was on this for years, but he was much younger so I don't know how much this will really help her. Being almost 19 years old, kidney failure will be a part of her life and I'm will probably end hers. I just hope I don't lose her before or at the holiday. I lost one cat on Christmas a few years ago, and I really don't want to lose another. As much as I know she has had a good long life, I still begin to get upset at the thought of losing her. I believe I'm thinking about this so much too as I will probably have to help her instead of letting her suffer away to nothing if she gives up.
Lily came to us in 1995. My husband had a friend who was dying from cancer and he knew that Frank and I would take care of her for the rest of her life. His friend gave her to us before he passed away. She has been the sweetest cat we have had. Please hope that she will be with us at least for many more months.

Thanksgiving
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and a Happy Hanukkah!
We went to my parents for Thanksgiving. Just four of us plus the fur-kiddos. It was nice and quiet, just how I like it. Here's some pics of our day.

Two Transports, One Failure
I hope everyone has had a great week, well last 2 weeks! I just haven't been able to get on here and update on my ever so exciting life, lol!
Well last weekend I had offered to transport a dog about an hour away. He was in our local shelter and a local rescue girl was going to take him but she couldn't for another week until she processed some adoptions so she got another rescue to take him in until then. He is a 7 year old Rottie/Dobie mix, 110 lbs. named Jackson. Definitely more Rottie. Very handsome boy. Very strong boy. Well at the same time I was picking up Jackson at the shelter, another rescue was to bring me a Doberman to bring up to the same rescue. This boys name is Munchie and he is 130 lbs.! I've never had so much dog in my car at one time...and it will be the last time. Long story short, Munchie's ride was an hour late and an adoption time for the rescue that I was meeting had been changed twice and the rescue guy couldn't meet me so I ended up bringing them to someone local until he could pick them up that evening. What a mess that was! Truthfully, I was glad I didn't have to drive an hour with these two big boys. I had one in a kennel but he never calmed down the entire time. They are both beautiful, but Munchie needs to loose a few pounds. And of course Jackson has heartworms so he is being treated for it.
Today I offered to transport another dog. I almost didn't because of what happened last weekend, but I figured I would give it a try. This ride took about 3 hours total. This transport went smooth and I'm happy I did it. Her name is Emmy and she was saved from Miami Dade Animal Services (one of the worst shelters in Florida). She's a 10 year old American Bulldog, has mammary tumors, an URI, and a skin issue (probably demodex). She was a pleasant and quiet passenger. When the vet tech came out to help me load her in my car (just in case she had an issue with lifting) he said she's a puller on the leash. I almost laughed hysterically at him after having gone through the real puller last week. She was a breeze to handle at about 40 lbs.

This is where I stopped to hand her off
to the next driver.
Well I'm off for the night. I'm tired. Just in case if I don't get back on tomorrow, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!
