Freedom Ride

I sponsored a week of boarding for a Doberman that was turned into our county shelter this past week who is heartworm positive.  I offered the sponsorship as the Doberman rescues in South Florida are pretty much full and if one of them didn't pull him, he would have a high chance of being euthanized after his 5 day hold.  He was supposed to go to boarding on Tuesday.  Well today the county shelter called the rescue and said he has kennel cough and requested he be picked up asap.  Long story short, the boarder is out of town until tomorrow, so the rescue where I adopted my two from asked if I would pick him up and meet him half way (about an hour away). Of course I obliged.

So this is now-named Hunter.

He is a 5 year old cropped, not docked Doberman.  He is a very handsome boy.  His tail wagged from the time I saw him probably for about half an hour.  He is heartworm positive and has kennel cough so they did not neuter him.  He was a little forceful when I stopped petting him, but when he got the hint he did go back to de-stuffing the toy in the back of the van.  This is the first transport I have done and I think I'll have to go buy one of those leashes to attach to the seatbelt so they are not all over the place next time.  He was anxious as I could understand, but otherwise a very good boy.  He gave a few little kisses and nudges.  I know he'll be adopted in no time at all.

Here's some more pictures along with a couple of the beautiful weather driving there and back.  Couldn't ask for anything better.

His wonderful tail.

Doggy Visitors

The rescue where we adopted Lucas and Holly from stopped by for a visit on Thursday.  He brought his two kids, Rosie (red) and Ozzy (black).  Ozzy stayed outside as I didn't want Lucas re-injuring his neck or making it worse.  Lucas tends to gravitate towards the larger more rambunctious ones and that's why he gets into trouble.  Ozzy is a good boy and I felt bad, but I don't want to make things worse for Lucas.

Holly actually had fun playing with Rosie.  Last time she came by she was quite smaller and Holly really didn't want anything to do with her.  This time Rosie is a little bit bigger and more playful so Holly enjoyed her this time.  Here's a some pictures.

Rosie starting to take over the toys.

She loved the selection of stuffed toys available.

Rosie tried to jump on the bed once after Holly
but fell back down. Just not big enough yet.

Holly would jump on and off the bed and do circles
around the room. She does this to Lucas too when she
gets a bug up her butt.

I love little Rosie, but I don't think she'll be so little the next time we see her.

Electronics

Let's just say I'm surprised I have any. I'd really like to break them every time they don't work or they are slow. My dvr in my bedroom is on the fritz again and it won't turn on and I'm ready to hit it with my fist is see if that helps.  I don't want to call and order a new one as the new one we ordered for the other room is an HD one and for some reason some of my shows don't record.  It'll record on one dvr but not on the HD one.  Don't know if it's a glitch or what but I really don't feel like dealing with getting another one.

My phone has been slow lately too, so I feel like that might be breaking soon. :)  My husband wanted new ones anyway.  We were just waiting until we had the money for them.  I'd feel much better if mine was just broken rather than slow.  I'm sure there is a way to clean it up, I just need to find out how online somewhere.

My parents left this morning to go back home.  It was nice to spend some time with them.  My dad was quite bored though, like he usually is whether here or at his own home.  At least here he had more animals to bother.  Their cat, Star, didn't do too bad.  She found her spot underneath the bed for most of the time but otherwise survived.  I actually got to pet her a few times.  The most times in the two and a half years they've had her.  I don't even think any of my pets knew she was in the bedroom.  My cats didn't or else they would have been at their door.

Now it is pouring outside.  It's rained every day this week so far.  I love the rain for my grass and the few plants I have, but now I know the mosquitos will be out soon.

Back to work tomorrow for two days.  I think I could more than handle a this kind of work week.  I really don't want to go back.

Have a good rest of the week all!!

Slip-N-Slide

It was more like slip-n-whack.  I finally did it.  I finally slipped in one of Holly's puddles of water that she leaves after she dribbles from her mouth after drinking water.  Thursday night I was walking into my bedroom and lost my footing.  I landed with a few sores on my leg which wasn't so bad, but I couldn't avoid whacking my head into the side of the door molding.  It was so loud the dogs thought someone knocked on the door and started barking.  All I heard was crack when I hit the molding.  Thankfully I hit it on the side of my face, on my cheekbone and along side my eye.  Had a little cut but no bruising.  Still is so tender.  Guess I really do have a thick head, lol.

Let's just say I was cursing Holly and crying at the same time.  I told her she needed to start acting like a lady, no more dribbling, no more hating the girl dog next door, no more eating and rolling in dead bugs, no more eating her own poop.  Now I'm sitting here laughing because that's really funny!  I love my Holly girl just the way she is!

Feathers and Furs

The other week my dad asked me if I knew anyone who would like a Blue Crowned Conure. It's my parents neighbors bird they've had for 15 years and no longer wanted as they don't have time for it. I knew they wanted to get rid of it because I spoke to the husband last October about it and I suggested he return it to the rescue where he got it from. Well apparently he didn't, and recently the bird started pulling its feathers out due to stress. I first found a vet/rescue who was going to take it, but then my husbands bosses dad said he would take it. He's had birds for a long time and I was reassured he'd be able to handle the issues this bird has. So on Mother's Day we picked "Peanut" up from my parents neighbor and brought him to his new home.  He (or she, as they don't even know the sex) was a biter so we didn't touch him.  He was a pretty bird and I know he definitely has a better home now.

Lucas is getting to be a little piggy so I'm pretty sure he will be going on a diet soon.  He goes from one extreme to another, not eating to not stopping.  I take him back to the vet in a week or two and will see how much he's gained.

Holly finally made her way onto the couch.  We have a bench right in front of it which she's been laying on.  Eventually she would be half on the bench half on the couch.  Well Sunday she decided to try the whole couch.  Being a couch hog, this is why she is back on the bench now.

My parents are getting their house tented for termites on Monday so they will be staying with me for two nights, until Wednesday.  They'll be bringing their kitty Star too.  The poor cat will be more traumatized than it already is.  I think I've seen the cat maybe 3 times, otherwise I have to look under the beds for her.  I'm taking a couple days off work to spend the time with them.  Not my idea of vacation time but I'll take it.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday! Time for me to eat lunch then wash the floors!

Toys are Done!

Finally finished braiding all the dog toys today!  I was slacking this week so I had to do about 40 of them today.  Now my back is feeling it, but it's worth it.  So glad I finished them so now I can drop them off at the shelter next week.  I have 2 sizes and it's about half and half.  Anyone can do this.  Joann Fabrics has the fleece material on sale a lot so it's really inexpensive to do too.  So does this look like 130 toys?

Cute Dog T-Shirt

Backyard Security
I was going to buy this for my Holly girl but they don't make one big enough for her.  I wanted to share it though because I thought it was really cute, plus they have a lot of other t-shirts for sale too.  I've never ordered from them before so I can't really rate them, only heard about them by word of mouth.

Holly is always on squirrel patrol in my yard.  I swear those critters tease her too.  As long as she doesn't catch one I'm okay with it.  A friend is going to do a graphic for me so I can order a plain t-shirt online and have the graphic put on.  Hopefully I'll order the right size t-shirt.

Free Mammogram - Accomplished

Well I had my mammogram done on Tuesday and it didn't cost me anything.  They even gave me a $5 Dunkin Donuts gift card for bringing in my records.  They were pretty nice there and pretty quick too.  I had to wait for my results just to make sure that they didn't need to take any further pictures.  All is A-Okay!  I was relieved to hear that.

It was a pain to get to my mammogram appointment as it was terrible weather.  At one intersection the lights weren't working properly, and it's at a pretty heavy intersection.  I waited for the truck next to me to go so if he got hit I at least had a cushion on that side, as terrible as that sounds but it was really a bad intersection.  People are supposed to treat these things as 4-way stops but it just doesn't happen.  Most people can kind of coordinate going their turns, but other people get pissed off and just barrel right through.  Such as the semi-truck that I guess was so annoyed he would rather have hit someone.  I couldn't believe that guy. Scary.  I called the county after I made it through the intersection and left them a message about the craziness going on.

I only took Lucas to work with me twice this week as I had to go some places after work on the other days.  I try to bring him to work with me when I know it might be bad weather but that'll have to be every day soon.  He loves going to work with his mommy.  I just need to figure out how to get him to stop barking at stuff on the other side of the door.  I was thinking of trying one of the bark collars with the spray on it, not the electric kind.  If I know him better, that would freak him out and probably stop him but I hate to make him more petrified of stuff than he already is.  I think I might try it when I have the spare money to buy one though.  At least to try it once and see how he reacts.  Anyone else try it?  I can usually make an "eh" noise at him when I can tell he's getting ready to bark and he won't, but I can't do that when I'm on the phone.  I get frustrated too.  I'm terrible at training.

This is Lucas one of the days at my work when it was raining all day and he was kind of freaking out.

Well off to do a little house cleaning and laundry then to start on finishing the dog toys.  I'm getting there!

Have a great day everyone!
