Shelter pictures

The other weekend we went to the animal shelter to get our annual pictures taken. We always use them for our Christmas cards that we send out.  It wasn't too bad.  Both Lucas and Holly didn't want to be there (well, and the husband too) but for the most part they were cooperative. Lucas never looks at the camera though. He's such a brat sometimes.

This one we just got for our immediate family.

This one is our Christmas cards.

Lucas & Holly's Visitor

The rescue stopped by on his way home after he picked up another Doberman yesterday. This girls name is Sasha. She's about a year old. She's a youngin' and accidentally broke her 67 yr. old moms hip. I guess her mom broke it before (not by Sasha though) and realized that she couldn't handle a young dog. All I know is if I was up there in age I wouldn't be getting a pup (at least not a large breed dog), I'd be getting an elderly dog. She's a sweet, sweet girl, and also the first rescue in awhile that hasn't snapped at Lucas because he's pissed them off.

Here's a few pictures of her visit. I think she'll be adopted pretty quickly.

Lucas is on the right, and he thinks he's a little tough guy.

Sasha wanting to play with Holly. At first Holly didn't want to play,
but Sasha got her playing.

She's a real pretty girl and I think she'll be quite large.

This is Uncle Gary, the man who owns the rescue. He's
one to be sitting down with the dogs, than standing up with the people.
I can understand and relate.

Happy Thanksgiving

Went down to my parents for Thanksgiving today. We always eat dinner early, like at noon time. Today went by too fast though. Here's a few pictures from today.

My dad is always the last one to finish eating. Everyone else usually leaves the table and starts cleaning up, but I usually sit there with him. Of course, Lucas and Holly know they will be getting some scraps.

Thanks Grandpa.

Holly got to play a little with the Pug named Bud that lives next door.

Holly wiped out for the day.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving day!

Ballot, Tree Bark, & Snoozing

Today I filled out my sample election ballot, about 98% finished. I figured it would take me awhile to go through, especially the amendment questions since you can't even figure out what the heck they're stating. I'm taking a couple vacation days this week and will be doing early voting. Can't wait until the election is over and all this junk mail, commercials, and phone calls cease.

I was outside walking around the yard this afternoon with the dogs. I noticed all this pine tree bark on the ground. Haven't seen so much on the ground before, but it's been real windy the past few days. I started looking at it and think I can find some kind of craft to do with it. You can kind of peel some layers off to make it thin or thick, and the shapes are kind of unique. I'll have to look around on the internet for something.

I actually have a Facebook friend sending me some Fall shaped leaves as someone posted a link to do a craft by using mod podge and putting them on glass jars then inserting a candle. It looked neat and easy enough to do. I figured I'd get the jars at the Salvation Army. They always have a lot there. I just don't have Fall leaves down.

My one cat Lily has been using the dogs bed as her sleeping spot lately. I caught her snoozing next to Lucas today.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday!

Dog Shopping

No, I haven't been shopping for another dog. Although I've been tempted at a little girl that needs a home, I believe my limit is 2 for now.

I like to find things that are made by people, and that also maybe support rescues is a bonus. I found these "snoods" on a Facebook group that supports a rescue in Michigan. She makes them herself. And even though it doesn't really get cold down here in South Florida, their ears do get a little cold once in awhile and these can be pulled up over their ears. I thought they were cute.

Lucas didn't mind his. I love green on him. Holly's is pink, but the picture didn't come out too well. She eventually tried to chew on hers. She is my little mischief girl. She's trying to figure out what Lucas is wearing in this picture. She was probably mad because she has a habit of side swiping Lucas and biting him on the neck, and this prevented her from that.

This is from this morning. Lucas never lets me take
his picture from the front. He won't leave my side.

Holly is watching the neighbors yard. Her enemy
lives there. Her enemy is, as I call, Lucas' girlfriend
Miss Cocoa. Cocoa is a good little dog, not sure what
breed she is. They also have a beagle named Sammy.

Sleeping, Skeleton, & Stepping Up

I took this picture the other week of three sleeping beauties that I just had to share. It's like a chain of snorers.

This is Holly and her tennis ball.

Friday I bought myself a set of electric hedge trimmers. I've always used a small handheld clipper (as seen in the picture) but I swear my hedges grow 2 feet in one week with some good rain. My back just can't take clipping it like I normally do. I have to say I do not like using electric tools in any way, shape, or form. They just scare me for some reason. After I got used to the trimmers, I was having fun, and I only cut the cord once lol! I don't really like the way they hack my bushes so I still touched it up with my small clippers. These hedges, which are really called Kings Mantle plants, are the only thing that has lived in my yard besides the Australian Pines. I just don't have a green thumb and I wish I did. The clippers on the left is what I used to use, now I have the one on the right.

And now I better get myself off this computer as I need to cut 9 yards of fleece material so I can make some fleece rope toys for the shelter. This usually takes at least 2 days to do, so hopefully I'll have them done next weekend.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Enjoy your Sunday!!

Yard Sale = Donations

Today my mom had a yard sale so I headed down with Lucas in tow at 5:15a.m., way too early. My mom had made a sign for me so Lucas (okay, me) could collect donations for the rescue where he came from. Being a yard sale and all, I really wasn't expecting but to collect maybe $5-10. We actually collected $23. I was very happy. There were a few people who owned Dobermans (previously) who looked like we brought up happy/sad memories. Some people wanted kisses from Lucas, but Lucas is such a momma's boy that his daddy is lucky if he gets any kisses. He loves being pet though, and he would lean against the people, just like a Doberman. I think he was sick of people by the end of the afternoon.

I felt bad I didn't bring Holly, but since my hubby didn't come it would have been too much for me with the both of them and trying to help my mom. It gave Lucas a break with his momma, plus it's so great to see Holly get so excited to see her brother when we get home. Like he's been gone a million years.

Here's a picture of Lucas with his Grandma with the sign she made with a little collection jar. It's a dog cookie jar I picked up at the Salvation Army which will be going to my sister as a Christmas present (good thing she doesn't read this).

Lazy Sunday

Caught Lucas falling asleep outside. Personally, I'd rather be inside in the air conditioning.

Holly says "Have a great Sunday everyone!"

Halloween photo submission

This isn't exactly the photo I submitted for my friends blog, but I thought it was funny with Lucas' tongue licking his chops because we're holding cheese.

Holly growing up with Lucas

My husband was recently talking to me about how Holly has gotten more mellow as she's grown. I'm not so sure sometimes, as just a few minutes ago she was bouncing off the walls barking because the neighbor was outside walking their dog. This is the dog who lives next door that she seems to hate through the fence, but I'm sure she'd like once they met outside the fence. I call the neighbors dog Lucas' girlfriend (her real name is Cocoa), as he always enjoyed meeting up at the fence. That is, until Holly came along.

All these thoughts of growing up and getting calmer (ha!) got me looking at their pictures that I've taken since we adopted her in March 2011. I can't believe she's almost 2 years old! I wanted to share some, and I'm sorry if you think there are a lot, but I could actually post many, many more as I love them all. Hope you enjoy, and I hope you're enjoying your Labor Day!

The night we brought Holly home

I miss this little one and can't believe how she's grown.

She made old Lucas play

This is the rescue we got Holly and Lucas from. We
call him Uncle Gary. The guy in the orange shirt is
Lucas and Holly's dad.

This is typical Holly being very upset when Lucas has
a toy and she doesn't. EVERYTHING is Holly's. And
they have at least a minimum of 8 toys laying around,
but she wants that one!

This is at my mother-in-law's retirement party at our
house. My dogs are included in everything at our house.

This is at my parents house on Father's Day. The dads
got a t-shirt from the dogs.

Holly just loves being next to big brother Lucas

Our first Christmas together. Our local shelter
has this every year, and I'm looking forward
to this year again.

These are all my in-laws, with Lucas and Holly's
dad sitting next to them.

Of course Holly tries to get the front seat every time.

Lucas and Holly in their summer attire. Saw some ties on the
internet that I thought were cute. I sent them a question
and they never responded. So my mom having a
sewing machine, she made some for them for all the seasons.
